EVERY Good Gift Is From Above

No matter how much we believe that we are saved by God’s grace and not by anything we have done there will always be a voice inside telling us to cling to specific traits, deeds, acts of repentance, personality traits or comparisons to others as currency for why God loves us.

Even as we sing of Gods grace in worship and adoration, our genuine worship and deep love for him might be being measured by our subconscious as a reason for him to keep loving us.

We use good things—like how we’ve grown in our faith and sanctification—or bad things—like how we “measure up” better or further along than other believers— as leverage for love.These are not outright pride or things we would claim make us worthy in Gods eyes. But in our subconscious heart, a heart where everything in life is measured by some kind of currency, we latch onto these things as a reason for God to keep loving us. And fear lurks in the shadows, a fear of losing these things—the identity that we cling to as a reason why we can be loved by God.

This is true freedom—that we have nothing to offer and yet are loved perfectly, fully and eternally. True freedom is that every good and perfect gift is from above—every good thing in this life is undeserved. Not only our salvation, but EVERYTHING good.

We might think we have this job, or this relationship, or this financial stability, or this health because of the things we have done right. And no doubt those things have been used. But ultimately, it doesn’t matter if we did those things or not. “EVERY good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” (James‬ ‭1‬:‭17‬ ) Our father does not change the way we do. The good things we have in life are based on HIS unconditional traits, not on our shifting hearts.

So let go of something today— a little money bag of currency that you are holding to for fear you will lose love or goodness if you let it go. You won’t.
